Gun Lake Tribe Looking for Candidates for the 2018 Judicial Election

Minimum qualifications for Chief Judge of Gun Lake Tribal Court: 

  1. Must be 25 years or older on the date of the election
  2. Must have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  3. Must be a member in good standing of the Michigan State Bar Association
  4. Must never have been disbarred by any other jurisdiction
  5. Must have a minimum of 5 years experience as a tribal judge in a court that exercised both civil and criminal jurisdiction
  6. Must never have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving dishonesty
  7. Must not be the Court Administrator, Court Clerk, or Tribal Council Member of the Gun Lake Tribe

Chief Judge Term of Office—the initial term of office for the first Chief Judge is 4 years. This is a salaried position.

Any person who wishes to announce their candidacy for Chief Judge of the Gun Lake Tribal Court must make the announcement to the Election Committee at least forty (40) calendar days prior to Election Day. A Candidate Bio that outlines the candidate’s experience must accompany the announcement.

The announcement must be made on the form set forth on www.gunlaketribe-nsn.gov. The announcements for candidacy and bios must be received by the Election Committee no later than 5:00 PM on July 2, 2018. All announcements for candidacy and bios must be mailed to:
